A court in Taiwan ordered a dentist to pay his mother around $7.4 L as reimbursement towards the money she spent for raising and educating him. He had signed a contract with his mother agreeing to pay her 60% of net profit from his income.
The lady divorced her husband and brought up two sons. She was worried that nobody would look after her when she grew old and hence signed the pact with both her sons. She accused her sons of ignoring her after they started relationships and said that their girlfriends even sent letters through their lawyers asking her not to bother her sons. Hence she was forced to file the case asking her sons to keep up the contract. She lost the case in the lower courts and she appealed all the way to the Supreme Court which upheld her claim.
