Chief Justice Indira Banerjee has been elevated as a Supreme Court Judge. At her farewell function she said that after her 16 month stint in the Madras High Court, she declared it to be the best high court.
She said she was thankful to the members of the Bar for not abstaining from work even for a single day.She said that she loved the state of Tamil Nadu and made annual trips to the state since 2006. She concluded her speech by saying that she would be physically present in Delhi but her heart would remain in Tamil Nadu. She made history by presiding over the first All Women Bench with Justice Bhavani Subbaroyan soon after assuming office.She is the second woman Chief Justice after Justice Kanta Kumari Bhatnagar who was appointed in 1992.
