A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking for a transfer of the Fathima Latheef case from the Special Team of the Central Crime Branch to the CBI. The PIL was filed by the National Students Union of India represented by it’s President N. Aswathaman.
It came up before a Division Bench comprising Justices M.Satyanarayanan and N. Seshasayee. The petitioner submitted that the death of class topper Fathima has shaken the entire student community. They also submitted that the Institution had not taken any effective measures to prevent the spate of suicides that are happening at regular intervals. As they did not have faith in the State Police, they felt it was necessary for the case to be handled by the CBI. The Court heard the arguments and reserved orders.
