Senthil Balaji who was the Transport Minister during the earlier AIADMK regime was arrested on June 14 by the Enforcement Directorate regarding a money laundering case linked with cash for jobs scam.

The bail petition came up before the Madras High Court and Justice G.Jayachandran heard the case. He dismissed the bail petition as the brother of the Minister is missing and the petitioner is currently holding the post of a Minister without portfolio and therefore, he may tamper with witnesses.
Senior Counsel NR Elango, the Senior Counsel who argued the case for the petitioner urged the court to grant bail on medical grounds as the petitioner was suffering from ill health and had a bypass surgery recently. He also stressed that there was no likelihood of tampering with witnesses as all evidence in the case was documentary in nature. However, the court dismissed the bail petition.
