A Division Bench of the Madras High Court comprising Justices S.M. Subramaniam and K. Rajasekar have directed the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) to cancel the provisional selection list it published on February 16th regarding the recruitment of 245 civil judges. It further directed them to come up with a revised list within a period of two weeks.
The Bench agreed with the arguments of the petitioner’s counsel that the TNPSC did not properly follow the rule of reservation while preparing the provisional list. They allowed a batch of writ petitions filed by 9 aspirants to the post of a civil judge.
The TNPSC drew up a list of meritorious candidates irrespective of their caste and did not follow the reservation policy. The Madras High Court therefore directed the TNPSC to prepare a revised list taking into consideration the reservation policy within two weeks.
