The Madras High Court has refused to pass any orders in connection with an indefinite fast by a group of lawyers who are demanding that Tamil is recognised as one of the official languages of the High Court.
The matter came up this morning before Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala and Justice Bharatha Chakravarthy and the judges held that there was no ground for them to pass orders as it was a political matter and suggested that members of the Bar should initiate a dialogue with the State government to resolve the issue.
The Court said that it understood the importance of human lives and asked the Government Pleader to bring the issue to the notice of the government.
Some lawyers have been on a fast for the past 8 days and two of them including a 91 year old had to be admitted to a hospital.
