The Madras High Court has dismissed the bail petition of former Minister Senthil Balaji who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in June last year in a money laundering case.

The bail petition came up before Justice Anand Venkatesh this morning and the judge observed that there were no merits in the bail petition. He directed the Special Court to complete the trial within 3 months of the date of receipt of the order copy. The trial has to be conducted on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the guidelines given by the Supreme Court in Vinod Kumar Vs State of Punjab.
Senior Advocate Aryama Sundaram appeared for Senthil Balaji. The court rejected the submission that Senthil Balaji was no longer a Minister but held that he was still an influential person and there was a possibility of influencing the witnesses.
