Linda Yaccarino, former NBCUniversal advertising chief, has been named as the new CEO of Twitter by current chief executive Elon Musk. While Musk will take care of product design and technology, Yaccarino will look after business operations.
Elon Musk acquired Twitter in October last year and the company lost nearly 80% of staff. Musk himself acknowledged that Twitter has suffered a massive decline in advertisement revenue after many advertisers fled the platform.
Yaccarino’s exit from NBCU is seen as a big blow to the company. She joined them in 2011 and her team has generated more than $100 billion in ad sales since then.. She is a marketer’s leader with key advertising expertise. She will take up the CEO post in 6 weeks time.
Yaccarino will be the first female Twitter CEO as well as the first to come from a non-tech background. All the former Twitter CEOs were from a tech background.
