Lawyers file PIL for a woman CBI official to probe Pollachi case

Six women lawyers have filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to appoint  a high ranking woman official to probe the Pollachi sexual abuse cases. The First Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani and Justice M. Duraiswamy agreed for an early hearing of the case. The Petition also sought extension of benefits of witness Protection Scheme to the victims.

Another relief sought  by the petitioners was to issue directions  to State Government and the Tamil Nadu legal Services Authority to set up one stop crisis centres along with victim centric standard operating procedures and survival support services for providing medical care, legal assistance and other assistance to victims of sexual crimes.  In order to have a free and fair investigation into the issue they insisted that a woman officer appointed by the CBI to head the investigation.
