The Madras High Court has restrained Kumudam Reporter, a Tamil magazine from publishing details regarding the private life of Kanimozhi who is a Rajya Sabha MP and daughter of former Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi. The restrictions apply only to her private life and does not extend to her position as a Member of Parliament or as a leader of the political party.
The court held that both rights have to be balanced, the right to privacy and the right to freedom of speech and that public interest was always based as a touch stone.
