With Covid cases rising to 2846 in a single day, the state is on high alert
Kerala Government has announced that the state will have night curfew from 10pm to 5am till January 2nd, 2022. This is in view of the rising number of cases and the threat of rapid spread of the Omnicron variant. The night curfew is aimed at controlling large gatherings and parties that are expected to happen for New Year. All restaurants , hotels, clubs, religious gatherings and shopping malls are to close by 10pm and restaurants and theatres are to function only with 50 percent seating capacity until further orders are given. On Wednesday, 2846 Covid cases were reported in Kerala along with 211 deaths. Over 500 cases were recorded each in Ernakulam and Trivandrum. The numbers seem to be increasing in other states like Mumbai and Delhi as well. Though breakthrough infections are being reported, WHO has advised everyone to take both doses of the vaccine and follow Covid appropriate behaviour of wearing masks, using a sanitiser and maintaining social distancing.
