Sixty Eight Covid related deaths were reported in the state
Kerala yet again crossed the 50,000 mark today with 51739 new Covid cases reported on Thursday. The highest number of cases is said to be in Ernakulam district with over 9700 cases per day. Thiruvananthapuram follows suit with over 7600 cases, followed by Kozhikode crossing over 5000 cases. Kollam, Thrissur and Kottayam have close to 4000 cases today. 68 Covid related deaths have also been reported.
The state has been seeing a spike in cases lately with numbers crossing what was recorded in the first and second wave. On Tuesday, Kerala recorded 55,475 cases which has been the highest number recorded till date. Districts such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta have now been included in Category C, which means the districts would be under restrictions and no socio, political or religious gatherings would be permitted. Cinema halls would be shut down in these districts as well. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, during the cabinet meeting instructed the ‘Covid First-Line Treatment Center’ (CFLTC) and community kitchens in these districts to strengthen their presence. The rising Covid cave is expected to subside by February.
