The Cauvery Water Management Authority ordered Karnataka to release 9.19 tmcft of water to Tamilnadu from the Biligundlu reservoir to the Mettur dam for the month of June. This was a unanimous decision as the forecast has been a normal monsoon and keeping in mind the water level in dams and reservoirs, Karnataka has been directed to release water to Tamilnadu said the Chairman of the Cauvery Water Management Authority, Masood Hussain.
The quantum of water to be released is in line with the Supreme Court’s order on February 16th last year According to the Court, Karnataka’s share is 284 tmcft, Tamilnadu’s share is 404 tmcft, Kerala’s share 30 tmcft and Puducherry’s share 7 tmcft. It reserved 10 tmcft for environmental purposes and 4 for natural flow into the sea. This is the third meeting of the CWMA since June 2018 when it was constituted. It is expected to meet every 10 days from June to October.
