Karnataka Government to fund college education for girls

The Karnataka Government has decided to bear all education expenses of girl students pursuing graduation and post graduation courses in all government colleges in the state from the present academic year. The scheme will benefit 3.17 lakh students and would cost the government an expenditure of Rs 95 crores per year.

However the scheme would not be applicable to professional courses. The decision was taken at a meeting of the State Cabinet that was held yesterday. The Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Krishna Byre Gowda briefed reporters about the scheme.
