Justice S. Vaidyanthan of the Madras High Court while dealing with a case relating to sexual harassment allegations involving a professor of Madras Christian College made a remark that parents felt that Christian  co- educational institutions were highly unsafe for girls. This remark has created a flutter in the Christian community who feel that the remark was totally unwarranted.

Several groups including the Tamilnadu Bishop’s Council, the All India Democratic Women’s Association and the Indian Christian Association of Tamilnadu have expressed their concern over the remarks.  They objected to the sweeping statement made by the judge and said that it was based on conjectures and surmises and feel that the remarks should be expunged. It was also felt that the statement about compulsory conversions was baseless and totally irrelevant to the case on hand.
