The State government will soon start the construction work of the proposed memorial at the Marina beach where former Chief Minister’s mortal remains are buried. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has issued the necessary planning permission to construct the memorial.
The said area falls under the coastal regulation zone and norms restrict construction work along the beaches. However formal planning permission was issued on March 19th.Work order has also been issued to the selected bidder. The memorial will be constructed at a cost of Rs 50.08 crore behind the memorial of MGR.
