A Division Bench of the Madras High Court comprising of Justice N Kirubakaran and Justice Abdul Quddhose while hearing a petition from an AIADMK functionary seeking to appoint him as official administrator for the late Chief Minister’s properties asked why a portion of the property should not be allotted for public welfare.
The legal heirs of Jayalalitha, niece Deepa and nephew Deepak said that they were planning to  establish a trust in Jayalalitha’s name and they had no objection to it. The Petitioner then submitted that even when there were second degree legal heirs, the court had the power to appoint a third party as official administrator. The Bench recorded the submissions made and adjourned the matter.
