All employees in the Information and Technology sector will work from home till the end of July as the government has extended the relaxation of VPN norms till the 31st of July. This decision was communicated by Union Minister for Information, Technology and Telecommunication, Ravi Shankar Prasad during a meeting with the IT Ministers of all the states. The situation will be reviewed in July.
Initially, IT firms were in a dicey situation as they were not in a position to permit employees to work remotely as they did not have the required permission. Now after the lockdown, the Union Minister has assured that necessary steps would be taken to provide better internet facilities. After the onset of COVID-19, nearly 80 percent of professionals are operating from home and almost everything is done online. The Ministry is preparing a digital platform to enable learning and sharing innovations and the National Informatics Centre would be releasing the app shortly.
