Lakshadweep filmmaker Aisha Sultana has been granted interim anticipatory bail for one week by the Kerala High Court in connection with a sedition case filed against her. The judgement for anticipatory bail has been reserved.
The judge while granting the relief asked her to cooperate and appear before the police for interrogation as and when required..
Aisha was booked on charges of sedition following her criticism of Lakshadweep Administrator Praful Khoda Patel and her ‘bioweapon’ remark. The Lakshadweep Police filed an FIR against her based on a complaint given by the BJP President in the Union Territory alleging that she was spreading false news about the spread of COVID-19 in the Union Territory during a TV debate.
In her petition, Aisha stated that the new administrator who was appointed brought about several amendments, modifications and relaxations in the administration rules. This has brought about opposition from not only natives but also from people across the world. Lakshadweep was also seeing a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases. Due to the primitive healthcare system and the geography of the area, a number of deaths were taking place. It was in this context that she was invited for the discussion and during the course of this discussion, the remark was allegedly made by the applicant.
