Savitri Jindal who is the chairperson emeritus of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd is the richest woman in India with a net worth of $17.4 billion. Savitri is the only common businesswoman to feature in the Forbes List 2023.
Jindal Steel is the third largest producer of steel in India. Savitri is the mother of 9 children and was totally devoted to her family as a homemaker. The untimely demise of her husband in a chopper crash in 2005 changed her life and she then took over the Jindal Group and divided the group’s companies among her 4 sons who now operate them independently.
Savitri is also a politician. She is a member of the Congress party and served as an MLA from the Hisar constituency in Haryana after she was elected in 2005. She served as Minister of state for Revenue and Disaster Management in the Haryana government from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2013 to 2015. Her late husband Om Prakash Jindal was also a minister and an MLA from the Hisar constituency.
