Lakshmi Balachandra, an Indian origin associate professor of entrepreneurship at Babson College in the US has filed a lawsuit alleging that she was subject to gender and racial discrimination. She joined the faculty in 2012.
In her complaint filed in the US District Court in Boston, Lakshmi Balachandra alleged that Babson College favours whites and male faculty and reserves awards and privileges for them. She further complained that she was denied numerous leadership positions and opportunities for more time to conduct, research and write. The attorney for Lakshmi, Monica Shah said that her client had also filed a charge of discrimination with the Massachusetts Commision against Discrimination.
Babson College responded saying that it takes complaints seriously and has well established protocols and resources in place to investigate and deal with them.
