Avani became the first Indian woman to win Gold at the Paralympics
Avani Lekhara made India proud by winning gold at the R-2 women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event at the Paralympics. She is the first Indian woman to win gold at the Paralympics. The 19 year old created a world record by shooting 249.6 which is also a new Paralympic record. “I can’t describe the feeling. I am feeling like I am on top of the world. It is indescribable,” said an excited Avani who is a law student. She had a car accident back in 2012 and suffered spinal injuries but this champion didn’t give up.
