After battling Covid for close to a month, she breathed her last on February 6th
Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 6th 2022 after battling Covid and pneumonia for close to twenty eight days. Her doctors had earlier said in a statement that her condition was deteriorating and that she was put on aggressive therapy but she breathed her last at the Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai on Sunday morning. “Lata Di died at 8:12 a.m. due to multi-organ failure after over 28 days of Covid-19 diagnosis,” said Dr. Pratit Samdani.
Lata started singing at the age of 9 and recorded her first song at the age of 13. Having lost her father, she had to support her mother and her siblings. Her career spanned over 70 years, she sang over 25,000 songs in 5 different languages. Her songs were even used in Hollywood films like Life of Pi. The Indian Government bestowed the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honor in India in 2001. She was also awarded the Padma Vibushan in 1999, the second-highest civilian award in India. She was laid to rest with full state honours and the Indian government has ordered two days of national mourning for the late singer.
