Devyani Khobragade an Indian Foreign Services Officer who was stripped and searched in the United States in 2013 has been promoted after the court ruled in her favour. She has been approved for promotion to Grade lll (Joint Secretary) of the Indian Foreign Service with effect from November 2016.
The Ministry of External Affairs had initiated proceedings against her for giving interviews to the media without taking permission from the Ministry and for retention of both Indian and US passports of her two children. The disciplinary authorities had imposed a penalty of reduction to a lower stage for a period of one year. She approached the Central Administrative Tribunal which directed her to be promoted as Joint Secretary.
