Saumya Pandey, an IAS Officer, was appointed as the nodal officer for Covid in Ghaziabad district in July. She gave birth to a baby girl and has rejoined duty just two weeks after her delivery, carrying her baby girl with her.
Saumya has not availed of the 6 months maternity leave that she is entitled to. According to her, God has given women strength to give birth and care for their children. Women in rural areas even after their delivery, do all the household work and also take care of the newborn baby. Saumya said that not only her family, it was the entire administration staff who supported her all through her pregnancy and even after her delivery.
