Paul Pelosi, the husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was violently assaulted at his home in San Francisco early on Friday by intruders who broke into his home. He was taken to hospital where he is receiving medical care. The assailant has been caught and arrested and the motive for the attack is being probed.
It is reported that the Speaker Nancy Pelosi was not at home at the time of the attack and flew back immediately when she heard of the attack, to see her husband in the hospital. Paul suffered a fractured skull and injuries to his right arm. The suspect David Depape, 42 years of age, demanded to see Nancy Pelosi at the time of the attack.
US President Joe Biden has condemned the attack. Members of the Congress have been on high alert over security threats since the riot in the US capital in January 2021 when Nancy Pelosi’s office was ransacked by supporters of Donald Trump.
