A woman’s hand was chopped off by her husband in West Bengal to stop her from going to work. Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has assured the woman who is a nurse that the state government will take care of all expenses to treat her severed right hand.
The nurse named Renu Khatun from Chinispur of Ketugram was promised a government job and an artificial hand. Renu was placed 22 on the panel in the nursing examination.
In a shocking incident, the hand of 23 year old Renu was cut off by her husband, his two friends and her parents-in-law with a machete at her marital home to stop her from working as a nurse in a government hospital. Renu was rushed to a private hospital and later referred to a hospital in Kolkata. Police have begun investigations after Renu’s father registered a complaint with them. Renu’s parents-in-law have been arrested while her husband and two friends are absconding after the incident.
