Members of women’s organisations and the public paid homage to Jaya Arunachalam, the founder of the Working Women’s Forum ( India ). She expired on June 29 th. She brought several women together and paved the way for their economic Independence. A Padma Shri awardee, Jaya also strove to bring about gender equality. According to the members of the Forum, the movement was her life and she used to meet and interact with so many women.
Many women had shared their experiences about how she had influenced their lives. She always stressed on economic Independence and that women should be able to stand on their own feet and also reach out to at least 10 other women. Her daughter Nandhini said that they would continue her good work and would work towards reaching out to many more women and towards empowering them.
