A woman from Sattur who was transfused with HIV- infected blood at a government hospital in December 2018 was granted compensation of Rs 25 lakhs. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court passed the order granting compensation and further directed the State Government to allocate funds to the woman to construct a house.
The Court also directed that the woman be provided with a suitable permanent job in the Class 4 category within a period of three months from the date of the order. She was further entitled to be provided with free medical treatment and medicines. The order was passed by a Division Bench comprising of Justices N. Kirubakaran and S.S. Sundar. They observed that the floor area of the house should not be less than 450 square feet and the quality of construction should be as per the Public Works Department specifications for accommodating Class 4 employees. The house was to have a compound wall around it.
