A woman from Karur filed a petition in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking protection from her parents. She had married a boy from a different caste against the wishes of her parents. After marriage, they moved to Tiruchi but they continued to receive threats from the girl’s parents.
On hearing the petition, Justice Anand Venkatesh, observed that both of them were majors and once the girl had made her decision, neither her parents nor her relatives had any right to interfere in her life. He then directed the Superintendent of Police of Karur district to look into the matter and to grant necessary protection to the woman and her husband
