Summer is all about “less is more.” Be it stripes, florals, peekaboo sheer dresses, graphic bold prints on short skin-showing skater skirts, or the radical mix-and- match boho look, just remember to stay ahead with a no-holds- barred demeanour. If you dare to bare and want to send those mercury levels soaring further, then keep it effortless and casual. Fling a sheer slip with high slits in light fabrics over your shorts or ripped jeans for a chic layered look even during the hot months, or keep it simple with linen palazzos and flowy, flared long tops in quirky prints for an edgy look, or better still keep the comfort factor intact with throw-and- go spring-summer dresses that can last you through the monsoons. Take a cue from these savvy, au currant go-getters from Bengaluru, as they decode their summer staples with RITZ.

Viren Khanna, engineer turned party organiser, community manager, founder Bangalore Expat Club shares his style statement
Claim to fame: “I run a pop up night club called VKP, which throws parties throughout the week at different venues and hotspots across Bengaluru, attended by multicultural global expats, who have made Bengaluru their home. We recently expanded into Goa and hosted a New Year’s Eve party at Ashvem beach, where we had 2,000 expats from across the world, dancing till the wee hours of the morning on the beach,” says Viren.
Style statement and summer state of mind: Giving a peek into his closet, Viren reveals, “I like to dress well, but since it’s sweltering hot these days, being comfortable is my mantra for dressing up this summer. Some of my favourite brands in my wardrobe include polo shirts from Ralph Lauren and Paul & Shark. My favourite denim brands are Levi’s, Hudson, Calvin Klein and Zara. The boat shoe is the single most important piece of footwear that works for me during summers. I wear it casually with a tee or dress it up with slim fit chinos and a button-up shirt. Once I find my right fit for shorts, I go and pick up from the same brand in multiple colours. Since I was travelling to the US this year, I picked up eight pairs of J.Crew Factory shorts from there. Also, linen shirts and well-cut tees in white are the best summer staple for this warm weather. In footwear, I like Tod’s classic moccasins, Valentino sneakers, Ferragamo lace up shoes and Common Project boots.”

Denims from Levi’s with a lumberjack shirt and oxford white t-shirt. Lumberjack is a classic piece that’s been reworked and restyled through the years. Once a staple shirt for manual labour, it’s now a statement piece that adds some personality and style to both casual and smart casual outfits. I’ve paired it with my NB sneakers that I can wear to go running or to the gym and it also looks cool with a formal suit. I also wear my Fit bit watch that helps me reach my fitness goals.”
