The High Court of Gujarat upheld the order passed by the Sessions Court and refused to stay the conviction of Rahul Gandhi in the Modi surname case. Justice Hemant Prachchhak delivered the verdict this morning at 11 a.m.

Due to this order, Rahul Gandhi will remain disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP. The court held that the conviction was ”just, proper and legal”.
Rahul Gandhi now has to approach the Supreme Court. The monsoon session of Parliament begins on July 20. If the Supreme Court rejects his request, he will not be able to attend the monsoon session. He also will not be able to contest the elections next year.
The decision of the Gujarat High Court is a setback to the Congress party. It has plans for a strategy for the upcoming polls including the national election in 2024.
