The Gujarat High Court has denied interim stay on Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in a criminal defamation case. A Surat court sentenced Rahul to 2 years in jail for his remarks on the ”Modi surname.”

Rahul Gandhi sought interim stay of the conviction till the High Court pronounced its final order on the petition. The matter came up for hearing yesterday and the lawyer who appeared for Rahul Gandhi stressed on the urgency for either getting an interim order or a final order after hearing the arguments of both sides. However, the judge said that no interim orders can be passed at this stage. He said that he would pass a final order after perusing the entire records and posted the matter after the summer vacation. The High Court will reopen on June 5.
The High Court has ordered the trial court to place before it the original ”records and proceedings” of the case.
