Leading Odissi exponent Sharmila Mukerjee and her dance ensemble Sanjali will present. Their performance will showcase the journey of Odissi and a composition on tribute to river Ganga.
With every beat transformed into an expression, Sharmila’s choreographies exude panache and fluidity that captures the audience. Her compositions are a beautiful mix of contemporary themes brought forth in traditional Odissi format. Her luminous presence on stage and the flawlessness in her craft is a treat for dance aficionados.
Known for her lyrical renditions, Sharmila has been instrumental in introducing Odissi to a wider audience in Bangalore. Her dance institute ‘Sanjali Centre for Odissi dance’ trains as many as 100 students across 4 studios. With an increasing interest in Odissi over the past few years, Sanjali Centre for Odissi is on a mission to revive and celebrate the dance form that is considered to be the oldest classical dance of India.
