General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff and his wife were among the 13 people who were killed in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
The funeral will be held today at Brar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment. People were permitted to pay their last respects to the General at his residence this morning. The bodies of the General and his wife Madhulika Rawat will leave for the crematorium at 2 p.m. The General will be cremated with full military honours.
The bodies of General Rawat, his wife and other defence personnel who were killed in the crash were flown from Sulur to Delhi last night. On the arrival at the Palam air base in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other top officials paid their tributes. Meanwhile Group Captain Varun Singh, the lone survivor from the crash has been shifted to Air Force Command hospital at Bengaluru for treatment.
