Fresh death warrants have been issued by a Delhi Court for the third time in the Nirbhaya case. All the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case will be hanged by the neck until dead on the third of March at 6 a.m. The death warrants were issued by Additional Seesions Judge to all the four convicts- Mukesh Kumar Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma and Akshay Kumar.
The earlier warrants were issued for hanging on January 22nd and February 1st but had to be postponed due to dilatory tactics adopted by the convicts in filing petition after petition. The court has been informed that one convict Akshay Agarwal will be filing a fresh mercy petition to be moved before the President. He contended that due to ignorance and poverty, in the earlier petition that he filed, complete facts were not stated. Another convict Mukesh had applied for a change in counsel. The court then appointed lawyer named Qazi who was already representing Pawan as his counsel too. Qazi has informed the court that Pawan also wished to file curative and mercy petitions. It is left to be seen if they will be hanged on March 3rd or the convicts manage to prolong it further.
