Umamaheshwari, former Mayor of Tirunelveli, her husband and servant maid were found murdered in their residence at Reddiyarpatti yesterday evening. The murder is suspected to have been committed in the afternoon but it came to light when their daughter Krithiga who resides nearby came to see her parents.
All the three of them were found lying in a pool of blood. It appears that crowbars and sickles were used to kill them. While Umamaheshwari was found dead in the hall, her husband Muruga Shankar was found dead in his bedroom and the maid Mari in another room. Umamaheshwari, a DMK leader was the first woman mayor of the Tirunelveli Municipal Corporation between 1996 and 2001. Her husband was a businessman and daughter is a Professor in a private college in Nagercoil. The police are conducting an enquiry to nab the culprit.
