The forest fire in Theni district has claimed 10 lives and the Tamil Nadu government has ordered a full fledged probe into the incident in order to ascertain how the fire spread. The Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has promised to take action against those people who arranged for the trekking expedition without permission.
Seven women and three men were killed and 17 persons have been admitted to hospitals with burn injuries. The health department officials have been instructed to ensure best medical treatment to the victims. A solatium of Rs 4 lakh has been announced to each of the families of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh to the grievously injured and Rs 50,000/ to those with simple injuries.
