Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts (SaPa) hosted a unique workshop on the link between mathematics and music. Two former students from The University of Cambridge, Sam Hewitt and Louis Day, conducted workshops with over 50 students between 5 and 15 years of age.
Sam Hewitt and Louis Day are mathematicians and musicians currently working with HeyMath! in Chennai (which has an official collaboration with The University of Cambridge). They have both toured the world to learn and play their music, and spent a day with the students at SaPa. Over 50 students between ages 5 and 15 participated in these sessions, beginning at 2 pm on Sunday.
Commenting on the collaboration, Bindu Subramaniam, Dean, SaPa, said, “It’s an honour to be associated with one of the top universities in the world. The workshops were a wonderful opportunity for students to learn and listen to new kinds of music as well as explore the possibility of a future in music.”
