For the first time in its history, Paraguay will have a woman President. Alicia Pucheta who is currently the Vice President will complete President Horacio Carte’s term after he stepped down ahead of schedule.
The Parliament will confirm Carte’s resignation and proclaim Pucheta as interim President.Alicia 68 is from the right wing Colorado Party which has been in power for decades. However the Opposition leader Desiree Masi did not consider Alicia’s nomination as President to be an advance for women in Paraguay.
