Captain Shiva Chauhan from the Indian Army has become the first woman officer to get posted at the Siachen glacier which is the world’s highest battlefield. Shiva hails from Rajasthan and did her schooling in Udaipur. She completed her graduation in civil engineering from the NJR Institute of Technology in Udaipur. She was commissioned into the army in May 2021.
She was posted at Siachen glacier in Kumar Post after completion of a month’s arduous training at Siachen Battle School along with other personnel and she hopes that more women officers will be inspired to join the Indian Army. This posting has come just before International Women’s Day.
A video that was posted by the Indian Army shows Captain Shiva Chauhan cycling and rock climbing in extremely low temperatures in Siachen.
She has sent a message to girls who wish to join the Indian Army that they have to be physically and mentally strong and should be prepared to serve in all kinds of terrain.
