Fire breaks out in women’s hostel

A hostel for women in Choolaimedu caught fire and five women including a pregnant woman were rescued from the bathroom of the hostel. Police suspect that the fire was the result of a short circuit in a hall on the first floor. It spread very fast and the five women who were trapped in the hall could not get out due to the thick fumes. The panic stricken women locked themselves inside a bathroom.

One of them called the hostel owner who tried to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher. The neighbours called up the Fire Control room for assistance. After the Fire Rescue Team put out the fire, they managed to rescue the five women locked in the bathroom. The owner has been admitted in hospital with 41 percent burns.
