The father and brother of the 18 year old asylum seeker Rahaf Mohammed Al Qunun have arrived in Bangkok to meet her. However they have to wait to see if the UN refugee agency would allow them to see her. Immigration Chief Surachate Hakpan said that even though the father and brother of Rahaf want to meet her, the UN has to approve of the same.
The UN refugee agency is investigating the case after Ms Rahaf said that her family would kill her if she was sent back to Saudi Arabia. It could take several days to process the case and determine the future course of action. Meanwhile the Australian Government is said to have asked Thailand and the UNHCR to process the claim quickly as it would consider her application for a humanitarian visa once the UNHCR had made it’s decision.
