Arunachal Pradesh State Weavers Co-op Federation and Sandhya Raman brought the weavers of Northeast to the major platform of responsible fashions. This unique initiative brought to the mainstream the beauty of craft and art of weaves from Arunachal Pradesh. Desmania which is the design partner and mentor to the federation is showcasing this collection. The extra ordinary weave is a part of our ancient traditions. The collection brings alive the bold and dramatic hand-woven fabrics from Arunachal, keeping the integrity and authenticity of the flavor. It is a classic collection celebrating the dancing weaves.
Sandhya Raman, Co-Founder of Desmania, Curator, Costume designer of Internationally acclaimed, known for her passionate textile activism, has a versatile career spanning over three decades. On the occasion, Sandhya Raman said, “Handlooms from Arunachal Pradesh are absolutely breathtaking and dramatic. The weaving treasures of Arunachal have to remain pristine and the pride of this tradition has to be experienced. I left the fabrics to speak and you have to hear their compelling voices.”
The collaboration between Arunachal Pradesh State Weavers Co-op Federation and Desmania is a step to restore, retain and reach-out to a larger market, through strategic and sensitive intervention. The aim is to make the weavers proud of their inheritance and make their profession lucrative so as to enable them to sustain happily. Sandhya’s endeavor is to strengthen this collaboration though deeper participation at the grass root level in Arunachal, with a wider footprint. The enormous potential that Arunachal offers can be made accessible to the people only through design intervention.
