Devotees who visit the Kapaleeshwarar Temple at Mylapore will have to follow a dress code to enter the sanctum of the temple. This new rule is applicable to both men and women. While it is mandatory for men to wear Indian traditional attire like dhoti and shirt or full pant and shirt. Male devotees have been asked not to wear lungis, half pants, Bermudas or banian. Women have been asked to wear either sarees or churidars with dupatta.
They have been requested not to wear T. Shirts, skirts, leggings or Bermudas. The temple administration has put up a notice board at the temple premises and said that devotees who do not follow the dress code will not be allowed inside the temple. There was a court order in January 2016 regarding dress code for devotees at temples but a division bench of the Madras High Court set aside this order in April 2016.
