Flo Bangalore is bringing to Bangalore, a very popular production this Thursday, February 6, at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. Dopehri, written and directed by Pankaj Kapur, produced by Supriya Pathak Kapur, is set in the streets of Lucknow, where sits the haveli of an old, lonely woman Amma Bi. Pankaj Kapur brings her story, in his words, bringing alive the characters, stringing the audience, through the emotions and nuances of these characters and the milieu of an old time Lucknow. Dopehri is a novella written by Pankaj Kapur, that is rendered on stage, with the ingenious use of lights and music. It takes theatre lovers through Amma Bi’s journey from loneliness to self-discovery. Pankaj Kapur strides across the stage reading aloud and breathing life into each of these characters with his enigmatic voice.
Flo Bangalore is a not for profit organisation, with the motto of “The power to empower”. The Bangalore chapter has powerful women entrepreneurs or women in the social work space. They run multiple workshops and events to upscale their members. Apart from this, they run numerous programmes which mainly focus on the skilling and economic empowerment of grassroots level women. They also undertake projects like health camps, menstruation awareness, collection drives, self defence classes and prevention of sexual abuse to name a few. The Theatron Production is produced by Supriya Pathak Kapur with music by Hitesh Sonik and lights by Hidayat Sam and Bijon Mondal and aesthetics supervision by Ruhaan Kapur.
