A woman who holds a post-graduate degree in microbiology took up a job with the Corporation as a conservancy worker. Though she had mixed emotions and found that all eyes were on her when she went to sweep the streets on her first day at work, she managed to pull it off.
The perquisites that come with government jobs are attracting the youth of today. The salary of a conservancy worker is around Rs 17,500/. They are also entitled to annual increments and pension benefits. Many under graduates and post graduates had applied for conservancy work. Earlier only those from the scheduled Castes were taking up such jobs. This new trend is a step in the right direction. Youngsters are learning about the dignity of labour and it further ensures social equality.
