News has spread like wildfire that diamonds were found in Wanching, a village in Mon district of Nagaland. Photographs and video clips of villagers digging for diamonds have gone viral on social media. This has prompted the State Government to order an investigation. The Department of Geology and Mining has deputed a team of four geologists to the site.
The team will conduct their investigation and submit their report. They are expected to reach the village either on November 30 or December 1. It is said that the incident took place after some villagers found some crystals while working in the forest and informed the other villagers presuming the stones to be diamonds. Some say that they are ordinary crystals which are very common in Nagaland. It is up to the team of geologists to investigate and declare what the stones are actually worth.
