Chaitanya Venkateswaran, an 18 year old girl from Delhi had the honour of being the British High Commissioner for a day. She won the contest “High Commissioner for a day” organized by the mission in a run-up to the International Day of the Girl Child. Chaitanya spent the day interacting with senior women police officers, meeting the press, handing out tasks to the high commission department heads, etc. All this was done through video conferencing due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
A student of international studies and economics, she is also an active volunteer and has worked with visually challenged students, acid attack survivors and even some LGBT groups. This contest is organized by the British High Commission every year since 2017 and is open to Indian women aged 18-23. This year, the contestants were asked to submit a one minute video on social media on the topic”What global challenges and opportunities do you see for gender equality in the age of Covid 19?”. Chaitanya’s entry was selected from over 200 entries.
