A 32 year old man was awarded death penalty by a fast track court for raping and killing a 7 year old girl. Mahila Court Judge ordered the police to send the case for a forensic analysis. This is the first verdict pronounced by the Special Court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act cases. Judge J. Radhika delivered the verdict to a packed Court hall.
The Judge refused to accept the contentions of the defence lawyer that the accused did not deserve death sentence. The verdict was delivered in only nine months after the gruesome crime shocked people of the State. The girl’s mother thanked the judge for awarding death penalty and hoped that it would serve as a deterrent in future.
